Plankton Net
A plankton net is equipment used for collecting samples of plankton in standing bodies of water. It consists of a towing line and bridles, nylon mesh net, and a cod end. Plankton nets are considered one of the oldest, simplest and least expensive methods of sampling plankton. The plankton net can be used for both vertical and horizontal sampling. It allows researchers to analyse plankton both quantitatively (cell density, cell colony or biomass) and qualitatively (e.g. Chlorophyll-a as a primary production of phytoplankton) in water samples from the environment.

23.000 - Small plankton net, diameter 25 cm:
The conical net bag with an upper diameter of 25 cm and a length of 40 cm is made of Monodur Nytal (Nylon) 20 to 500 µm, ordering no. 23.000 or ordering no. 23.002 for a range within 5-15 µm. Plankton nets are available in all types and sizes.
The sample can be removed through a valve at the bottom of the sample cylinder.
23.007 - Small plankton net, diameter 30 cm:
The upper part of the net is made of strong Beaver Nylon. Standard mounting with 3 pcs. of polyester line Ø5 mm. with bridle, length 60 cm.
The conical net bag with an upper diameter of 30 cm and a length of 100 cm is made of Monodur Nytal (Nylon) 20 to 500 µm, ordering no. 23.007 or ordering no. 23.008 for a range within 5-15 µm. Plankton nets are available in all types and sizes.
The sample can be removed through a valve at the bottom of the sample cylinder.
23.010 - Small plankton net, diameter 40 cm:
The upper part of the net is made of strong Beaver Nylon. Standard mounting with 3 pcs. of polyester line Ø5 mm. with bridle, length 60 cm.
The conical net bag with an upper diameter of 40 cm and a length of 100 cm is made of Monodur Nytal (Nylon) 20 to 500 µm, ordering no. 23.010 or ordering no. 23.011 for a range within 5-15 µm. Plankton nets are available in all types and sizes.

23.020 - Plankton net, diameter 50 cm:

23.030 - Plankton net, Ø50 cm for arctic use:
The arctic net is developed for taking samples in arctic oceans which may contain porridge ice. An adapter supports direct sampling into plastic bottles with a capacity of either 1 or 2 L. Three lines hold the adapter and the bottle, so their weight does not stress the net bag itself.• Outer diameter. 50 cm

23.400 - Ring trawl net - diameter 100 cm:
The net consists of the following items, please refer to above photo
A. 3 pcs. Ø6 mm polyester rope with bridle and snap hook, rope length 100 cm.
B. Net ring of AISI 316 stainless steel tubing with 3 pcs. of loops for bridle and 2 pcs. of loops for digital counter placed in the middle of the mouth. Mouth diameter is Ø100 cm. = 0,785 m²
C. AISI 316 stainless steel clamping fíxture.
D. The conical net part consists of synthetic material 500 µm Monodur Nytal net, length 3 m. Other mesh size on request.
E. AISI 316 stainless steel clamping fixture.
F. Sample cylinder with 4 side windows covered by stainless steel sieve.
23.100 - WP-2 plankton net, diameter 57, 70 or 75 cm:
The WP-2 plankton net can be equipped with a digital flow meter (optional) for determing the amount of water passing through the plankton net. Available models 23.090 (no back-run stop) and 23.091 with back-run stop.

(A) "Nansen release mechanism" (to be ordered separately) for operating/closing plankton net by a 0,8 kg drop messenger.
(B) Three Nylon lines (6 mm diameter) with bridle and snap hook (length: 85 cm).
(C) Ring of AISI 316 stainless steel tubing with 3 loops for bridle and weight lines, 2 loops for an optional digital counter located in the middle of the opening. I.D. Ø57 cm = area of 0.25 m2
(D) AISI 316 stainless steel clamping fixture.
(E) Part a net: 200 µm Monodur Nytal (nylon) net with 6 loops for the 6 mm (diameter) nylon line closure rope. Cylindrical net length is 95 cm. Part b net is identical to a, but conically shaped. The length is 166 cm.
(F) AISI 316 stainless steel clamping fixture.
(G) Net bucket, based on the Hensen design. The bucket is made of a 160 mm (diameter) Polypropylene tubing with a plastic draining tap, 6 openings, (total area of 315 cm²), covered by a AISI 316 stainless steel net (mesh size similar to the main net), 1 round supporting rack bucket and 3 loops for lead weights.
(H) 3 Nylon lines for the weight with bridle and snap hook.
(I) Lead weights for net bucket (optional). Consists of 6 weights, each 2 kg. Total weight for net bucket 23 kg. The weight of the net bucket does not stress the net bag itself.
23.250 - WP-3 - Plankton net, diameter 113 cm:
This net is similar to the WP-2 net but larger. The opening has a diameter of 113 cm (approx. 1 m²) and the conical net bag has a length of 200 cm. Standard mesh size is 1000 µm. Other mesh sizes on request. We recommend a minimum of 200 µm.
23.290 - Bongo net, 2 x 30 cm:
A bongo net consists of two plankton nets mounted next to each other. These plankton nets are ring nets with a small mesh size and a long funnel shape. Both nets are enclosed by a sample cylinder that is used for collecting plankton. The bongo net is pulled horizontally through the water column by a research vessel. Using a bongo net, a scientist can work with two different mesh widths simultaneously. Support of a V-fin depressor allows sample taking in various pre-defined depths.

23.300 - Bongo net, 2 x 60 cm:
A bongo net consists of two plankton nets mounted next to each other. These plankton nets are ring nets with a small mesh width and a long funnel shape. Both nets are enclosed by a cod-end that is used for collecting plankton. The bongo net is pulled horizontally through the water column by a research vessel. Using a bongo net, a scientist can work with two different mesh widths simultaneously.
1. V-Fin Depressor made of cast brass, weight 18 kg (optional).
2. Wire Ø6 mm stainless steel with shackle (optional).
3. Double net ring Ø60 cm diameter, made of AISI 316 stainless steel with 1 loop in the middle for wire and V-Fin depressor and 2 loops for an optional digital counter located in the middle of the opening.
4. AISI 316 stainless steel clamping fíxture.
5. Two conical nets, Ø60 cm upper diameter, Ø11 cm lower diameter, consisting of Monodur Nytal (PA6.6 nylon). Standard delivery includes 300 µm + 500 µm. Length of 250 cm. Other mesh sizes upon request. Within 100 - 500 µm there is no additional cost.
6. AISI 316 stainless steel clamping fìxture.
7. AISI 316 stainless steel bar with 2 rings clamping fixture for fastening the plastic net buckets.

The net parts are available in all other meshes. From 100 to 500 µm mesh there is no change in price.
